Watercolor Studio
with Anne P. Wert (W26 Rollover)

Members may sign up for this class only if currently enrolled.

In this class, we will explore what makes watercolor unique. Some previous watercolor or other painting experience is preferred. We will explore this fun but challenging medium through simple lessons and/or demos. Students are encouraged to apply these techniques to images of their choosing. Instructor Anne P. Wert will work with students individually to determine the strongest composition and how best to use watercolor to create a successful painting.

Each class ends with the opportunity to learn from your fellow painters in our weekly group critique.

Thursdays, January 8 – February 26, 2026 (eight weeks)

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Materials Provided: Students will supply their materials. See the list below.

Materials Fee (payable to the instructor): $25

Students must bring from home or purchase these materials for the class:

A detailed list of all supplies can be sent to students before class.

Watercolor paper: If you are going to splurge on anything, instructor Anne Wert thinks paper is the most important. Any brand is okay, but paper should be Cold Press or Rough, and 140 lb or 300 lb. At least 9”x12” or 10”x14” is recommended.

Watercolor brushes: Any brand is fine, just make sure they are watercolor brushes. Various sizes of round brushes are recommended.

Watercolor paints: Any brand is acceptable, but instructor Anne Wert prefers Winsor Newton. The company makes a less expensive Cotman set, which is suitable for beginners. Anne Wert suggests buying tubes of paint rather than pans or half pans.

If you already have watercolors, you don’t need to buy new tubes. Just make sure you have a variety of warm and cool blues, yellows, and reds, as well as some neutral browns.

Watercolor palette: Any watercolor palette is fine, either a travel palette or a full-sized option. You can even use a plain white porcelain platter.

Other: Small spray bottle; paper towels or tissues; a container for water
